Food City Fuel and Pharmacy Bucks Back By Popular Demand
ABINGDON, Va. – As fuel prices continue to climb, Food City officials recently announced the return of their highly successful Fuel Bucks saving program to locations throughout their market area.
Beginning June 3, 2007 and continuing through August 4, 2007, Food City ValuCard shoppers will have two ways to earn fuel/pharmacy bucks. For every $10 in Food City store brand purchases (which include the Food City, Food Club, Full Circle, Paws, ValuTime, Top Care, Academix, Domestix, Electrix, Easy Clix, World Classics and Dining-In family of products) in a single shopping trip, shoppers will receive a $1 fuel/pharmacy buck. On top of that, shoppers will also receive a bonus $1 fuel/pharmacy buck each time they purchase one of several bonus items, which will rotate on a weekly basis. Bonus items will be identified in Food City’s weekly newspaper insert.
For example, a $50 purchase of Food City store brand products which included 3 bonus items would result in $8 in fuel/pharmacy bucks to the shopper.
Fuel/pharmacy bucks will automatically dispense at the checkout at the conclusion of each shopping trip, and customers can redeem fuel/pharmacy bucks at any Food City Gas ‘N Go or Food City Pharmacy location before August 25, 2007. To redeem the vouchers, customers should present their fuel/pharmacy bucks to the Gas ‘N Go or Pharmacy cashier along with their ValuCard when making fuel or pharmacy purchases and their order total will be reduced accordingly. Some pharmacy restrictions apply and customers should see their pharmacist for details. The campaign does not include the purchase of videos, gift cards, cigarettes or alcohol and select Food City Fresh meat, produce and deli items are also excluded. And each fuel/pharmacy buck can only be used at either the fuel center or the pharmacy, but not both.
“As rising fuel prices continue to present a challenge for the family budget and place additional strains on food expenditures, we felt compelled to provide some much-needed relief for our shoppers” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer. “Customer service is the top priority at Food City. We live, work and educate our children in the communities where we operate, and we are very aware of the effect climbing fuel costs are having on the families we serve.”
Headquartered in Abingdon, Food City operates 95 retail food outlets throughout the tri-state region of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

Johnson City & Food City presents to you the 2007 USSSA AA Baseball World Series which will host the best 13 & under baseball teams in America. This has been a growing national event throughout the past several years and we feel confident 2007 will be the best World Series yet.
We also would like to say congratulations on an outstanding season and we welcome your team to the 2007 USSSA AA Baseball World Series 13 & under. Your tournament hosts will be the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and Food City. It will be our goal to create an experience that the players, coaches, and families will remember for the rest of their lives. Your USSSA Baseball State Director will enter teams in the appropriate age and appropriate division of play. Click here for your USSSA State Director (usssabaseball.org/state_directors.htm). The tournament will be played at Winged Deer Park on July 17-22, 2007. Contact Karen Hubbs if you have any questions (423-461-8012) and we are excited to be able to have the opportunity to join players, coaches, families, and the community in experiencing this once in a life time event.
The USSSA Baseball program will use the “pool-play” format in its World Series. Teams will be placed in pools where they will play a round robin within their pool. A double elimination format will be used in the Championship bracket following pool play. A single elimination consolation tournament will be held for the teams that do not qualify for the championship bracket. The exact format of the tournament, e.g., number of pools, number of teams in each pool, etc., will be set by the Tournament Director following USSSA Baseball guidelines and being approved by the USSSA Baseball National Committee.
Teams that win World Series berths from an NIT Tournament must play in the State Championship in their home state to be eligible to play in the World Series. Contact your State Director for information on State Championships.
Your team’s World Series application and cashier’s check or money order for the entry fee MUST BE RECEIVED BY YOUR STATE DIRECTOR BY JULY 6, 2007 to guarantee your spot in the tournament. We are anticipating the top forty 13U teams from across the United States to participate in this year's World Series so begin your preparations now. Your entry fee, in the amount of $495.00 should be made payable to: USSSA Baseball.
All of the above should be sent to your USSSA Baseball State Director who will then forward this material along with your official roster and a letter of transmittal to World Series Headquarters: Karen Hubbs 603 East Market St. Johnson City, TN 37601, Fax 423-461-8047 or hubbs@johnsoncitytnchamber.com. Entry for World Series teams MUST BE RECEIVED AT TOURNMENT HEADQUARTERS BY 5:00 P.M. July 6, 2007.
Your State Director must sign the roster we receive. This roster must be the one that was submitted to your state and/or Area Director when you team qualified for this tournament. Failure to comply with this rule will result in your team’s suspension from participation in this tournament. Players will be individually checked in at each tournament with proper birth certificate or USSSA ID card in hand.
This website will continue to be updated throughout the upcoming months. Please check back for further information including schedules and other key components dealing with the event.
